The ERAS® Center of Excellence at Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) continues to expand its ERAS® programs. Over the past year, the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the University Heart and Vascular Center Hamburg began implementing ERAS® and has now demonstrated improvements in compliance with the ERAS® Society guidelines and corresponding patient outcomes.
Led by Professor Priv.-Doz. Dr. Johannes Petersen, the department has achieved ERAS® Qualification after demonstrating:
- Increased compliance with ERAS® guidelines
- Earlier patient discharge
- Positive feedback from patients, nurses, and physicians
- Same-day surgery now supported by ERAS®
- Structured processes and ward checklists resulting in optimized workflows
Following the successful completion of the INCREASE study, the ERAS® program is fully integrated into standard clinical care, and the team continues to expand ERAS® into more complex cardiac procedures.
